Whirlpool EveryDrop filter guide (EDR1–EDR4)

EveryDrop is Whirlpool’s refrigerator water filter line used across Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, and some Amana fridges. The filters look similar, but EDR1, EDR2, EDR3, and EDR4 are not interchangeable.

Which EveryDrop do you need?

How to tell them apart

  1. Old filter label — look for EDR#RXD1.
  2. Owner’s manual — maintenance section lists the exact EveryDrop number.
  3. Model number — sticker inside the fridge; search that model rather than guessing EDR1 vs EDR4.

Using the wrong EveryDrop may not seat or can leak.

Replacement schedule

Replace about every 6 months or 200 gallons. Hard water or heavy ice use may need 3–4 months — details in how often to replace a fridge water filter.

How to replace & reset

  1. Twist the old filter a quarter-turn and pull straight out.
  2. Push in the new filter and twist to lock.
  3. Flush several glasses of water.
  4. Hold Filter Reset ~3 seconds (see filter light reset guide).

OEM vs compatible

Genuine EveryDrop filters are widely stocked at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Certified compatibles can cost less per filter in multi-packs — prefer NSF 42/53 listings and recent fit reviews (NSF explained).

Can I put an EDR4 in an EDR1 fridge?

No. The housings differ. Match the number on your old filter or the manual.
